About Guest Mode
For Fleet accounts
Guest Mode simplifies vehicle access management for fleets and rentals.
It restricts sensitive vehicle access, facilitates easy user data erasure and allows drivers to set up limited Tesla app access using a QR code.
How to enable or disable Guest Mode
Visit Fleet to select a vehicle and navigate to Drivers > Guest Mode.
How to erase user data
To protect the sensitive information of drivers, you can remotely erase user data stored in the vehicle.
Visit Fleet to select a vehicle and navigate to Drivers > Erase Data.
Note: Cloud-synced driver profiles are typically restored automatically within a few minutes. To remove cloud-synced profiles, manually remove them from the vehicle. To restore cloud profiles immediately, restart the vehicle.
Guest Mode Restrictions
Guest Mode prevents drivers from changing or resetting:
- Keys
- Vehicle name
- PIN to Drive
- Speed Limit Mode
- Glovebox PIN
- Dashcam USB formatting
How Guest Mode remote access works
If a user unlocks the vehicle using a key card, they'll receive a prompt to set up a phone key by scanning a QR code on the touchscreen. This gives them limited access to:
- View the vehicle's live location
- Issue remote commands
- Download their Tesla account profile to the vehicle
- Set up their phone as a key
Remote access is automatically removed when:
- Guest Mode is disabled
- A key card is used to drive the vehicle
- A new QR code is scanned (only one guest is allowed at a time)
- Vehicle ownership is transferred
Guest Mode remote access requirements
- Vehicle firmware 2024.14+
- The vehicle must be online
- No Phone Key must be connected
- Previous user data must be erased by selecting Drivers > Erase Data
Real-world usage example
- Select Drivers > Erase Data to remove any existing user data
- Select Guest Mode > Enable
- Without any phone key connected, tap the key card on the driver-side pillar to unlock the vehicle
- The guest scans the QR code on the vehicle's touchscreen
- The guest will be directed to Tesla's webpage to gain limited mobile access to the vehicle
- The guest can now unlock, monitor and control the vehicle through the app
