540 Vehicle Server Error

You may receive a "540 Vehicle Server" error in your Tesla app when too many requests have been made to your vehicle.

To fix the problem immediately, restart your Tesla.

To fix the underlying cause:

  1. If you have ever used another Tesla or charging app or website, reset your Tesla account password. This is necessary even if you have deleted the apps as services will continue to track the vehicle.
  2. Look at the signal bars in the vehicle. If there's poor cellular signal, connect to WiFi. If there's poor WiFi signal, disconnect from WiFi.
  3. If you tend to press multiple controls at once or use the API, wait longer between commands or API requests.
