If pressing Finish Setup doesn't open the Tesla app

Try these fixes:

  • Visit tessie.com/key on your desktop and scan the QR code using your phone's camera
  • (iOS) Set your phone's default browser to Safari
  • (iOS) Scroll up and tap the blue Open button at the top of the webpage
  • (Android) Use the Firefox browser and select "Open in app" in the menu
  • Reinstall the Tesla app

If the Virtual Key prompt doesn't appear in the Tesla app

Force close the Tesla app and try again.

If the Tesla app shows "You have not granted tessie.com access to your account"

The account being used in your Tesla app has not authorized Tessie. Follow these steps:

  1. In the Tesla app, tap the menu icon and read the email under your name
  2. In Tessie, select Settings > Connectivity > Switch Tesla Account and use the same email
  3. Visit tessie.com/key and try again

If the Tesla app shows "Request timed out"

Your phone or vehicle is experiencing a communication issue. Follow these steps:

  1. Change your phone to use WiFi or cellular connectivity and try again
  2. If you still receive the error, change your vehicle's connectivity to WiFi, cellular, or a mobile hotspot and try again

If the Tesla app shows "Set up Phone key and try again"

The Tesla app is not fully authenticated with the vehicle. Follow these steps:

  1. In the Tesla app, tap Security > Phone Key Best Practices > Reset Phone Key
  2. In the Tesla app, set up Phone Key again
  3. Visit tessie.com/key and try again
