Virtual Key Troubleshooting
If the vehicle computer is serviced, the Virtual Key may need to be removed and re-enabled.
If pressing Finish Setup doesn't open the Tesla app
Try these fixes:
- Visit tessie.com/key on your desktop and scan the QR code using your phone's camera
- (iOS) Set your phone's default browser to Safari
- (iOS) Scroll up and tap the Open button at the top of the webpage
- (Android) Use the Firefox browser and select Open in app in the menu
- Reinstall the Tesla app
If the Virtual Key prompt doesn't appear in the Tesla app
Force-close the Tesla app, then try again.
If the Tesla app displays...
"You have not granted tessie.com access to your account"
The account being used in your Tesla app has not authorized Tessie. Follow these steps:
- In the Tesla app, tap the menu icon and read the email under your name
- In Tessie, select Settings > Connectivity > Switch Tesla Account and use the same email
- Visit tessie.com/key and try again
"Request timed out"
- Disable any VPN or firewall and try again.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Tesla app and try again.
"Unable to grant vehicle access to a third party at this time"
- Disable any VPN or firewall and try again.
- Restart your phone and try again.
"Set up Phone key and try again"
The Tesla app is not fully authenticated with the vehicle. Follow these steps:
- In the Tesla app, tap Security > Phone Key Best Practices > Reset Phone Key
- In the Tesla app, set up Phone Key again
- Visit tessie.com/key and try again
If the key is automatically removed from the vehicle
In rare cases, the Virtual Key may be removed automatically. If this happens to your vehicle, please reach out to us for help.
