Virtual Key Troubleshooting

If pressing Finish Setup doesn't open the Tesla app

Try these fixes:

  • Visit tessie.com/key on your desktop and scan the QR code using your phone's camera
  • (iOS) Set your phone's default browser to Safari
  • (iOS) Scroll up and tap the blue Open button at the top of the webpage
  • (Android) Use the Firefox browser and select "Open in app" in the menu
  • Reinstall the Tesla app

If the Virtual Key prompt doesn't appear in the Tesla app

Force close the Tesla app and try again.

If the Tesla app says "Unable to Share Vehicle: [...] you have not granted tessie.com access to your account"

  1. In the Tesla app, tap your profile icon and read the email
  2. In Tessie, select Settings > Connectivity > Switch Tesla Account and use the same email
  3. Visit tessie.com/key and try again

If the Tesla app says "Unable to Share Vehicle: Request timed out"

Improve the vehicle's connectivity by changing it to use WiFi, cellular or a mobile hotspot.

If the Tesla app says "Unable to Share Vehicle: Set up Phone key and try again"

  1. In the Tesla app, tap Security > Phone Key Best Practices > Reset Phone Key
  2. In the Tesla app, set up Phone Key again
  3. Visit tessie.com/key and try again
